How the treatment works
From the photo check to aftercare: we explain transparently what patients can expect during the treatment of an ingrown toenail.
Step 1 – Photo check or appointment enquiry
Patients can upload a photo in advance via our photo check or request an appointment directly. The photo check does not replace a medical diagnosis, but it helps to assess the situation better.
A photo pre-assessment is particularly useful for a longer journey — this helps to clarify in advance whether an appointment in Frankfurt is really worthwhile.
Step 2 – Medical assessment
On site, the toe is then examined. Inflammation, pain, granulation tissue, nail shape and any previous treatments are assessed.
On this basis, a joint decision is made on whether conservative, podiatric or medical treatment should be carried out.
Step 3 – Informed consent
Before the treatment, the following are discussed:
- the findings
- treatment options
- alternatives
- the procedure
- anaesthesia
- possible risks
- aftercare
- costs
Step 4 – Local anaesthesia
If medically necessary, the toe is anaesthetised locally. The aim is to make the treatment as tolerable as possible. We deliberately do not make promises such as a completely pain-free treatment — perception is individual.
Step 5 – Treatment
The affected area is treated in a targeted way. Depending on the findings, inflamed tissue or a portion of the nail can be treated. The CO₂ laser allows a precise approach. The treatment is carried out on an outpatient basis.
Step 6 – Dressing and aftercare
After the treatment, a dressing is applied. Patients receive instructions on care. Shoes, weight-bearing, sport and work are discussed individually. A follow-up check takes place depending on the findings.

How long does the appointment take?
The duration depends on the findings and on how much explanation is needed. Many treatments can be carried out on an outpatient basis in a single appointment. With more complex findings, more time or aftercare may be necessary.
